Orange Bikes – The next PHASE
Unless you have been living under a rock you’ll already know that E-MTB is both a staple of the industry and trail heads alike, there was once a time where E-MTB’s were in the minority, but over the last decade there has been a huge shift in peoples preferences. They’ve opted for assistance, opted for bigger days on the bike and ultimately opted for MORE, well, everything.
The evolution of the E-mtb has been incredible, bikes are almost unrecognisable by comparison to their original counterparts. Orange have been developing and manufacturing e-bikes for over a decade in our UK factory and with each iteration they have gotten better and better.
Our newest phase (sorry) of development has been focussed around our most popular model, the bike that exists within the Goldilocks principle, the bike that is right for, just about everyone. The Orange Phase.
The Phase is our newest E.P.O (Electric Powered Orange) model, with MX wheels, 160mm of travel front and rear, geometry to conquer the bike park and back country alike and now powered by Avinox!
Chasis
The frame fabrication of the Phase is founded on our iconic aircraft grade aluminium folded monocoque construction technique that we pride ourselves on. With state-of-the-art aluminium craftsmen who boast years of experience, we think that the frames we produce today are the very best we've ever made and indeed probably the finest in the world. Manufactured from flat sheets of aerospace grade aluminium into individually custom-fabricated tubes, then seam-welded for each specific application, working in harmony with CNC machined components from aluminium billet, all meticulously modelled and analysed. All produced, manufactured and assembled in the UK at our own facility. It means we have a product that's strong, durable and fully recyclable at the end-of-life cycle.
Designed, manufactured and assembled right here in the UK means we have complete control from start to finish. The Phase now flaunts a new tube-set not only improving space within the front triangle and fine tuning frame compliance but also allowing us to mount the Avinox display in the top tube. We’ve also adjusted the frame sizing slightly making the seat-tubes shorter to better allow for longer dropper posts and upgraded the bash guard to Aluminium to keep your investment protected, you won’t find pieces of plastic here.
The Phase uses a 205x65 trunnion mount shock and has the ability to use a bearing eyelet at the shaft end to allow for the lowest break away force possible, keeping the suspension supple in even the choppiest of terrain. The frame is boost 148x12, uses a UDH gear hanger to ensure future proof compatibility and access to a gear hanger almost anywhere, sticking with the rear, we’ve improved the asymmetrical rear triangle Increasing vertical stiffness but still maintaining the lateral compliance we see as essential to grip.
Geometry
Bike geometry has calmed down in recent years and the massive push for longer and longer seems to have found a sweet spot. We believe the geometry on the Phase is the ideal mix between descending prowess and all day comfort.
The Phase features a 64º head angle, 76º seat angle and 480mm reach in size large, the bike uses a reduced offset fork and a 448mm chainstay to keep a planted & surefooted feel but not taking away from the bikes nimbleness.
